Es la Unidad N°10, del mismo penal que alberga a los rugbiers en La Plata. Este edificio aloja a detenidos que están por terminar su condena. Las autoridades aseguran que el reclamo es motivado por el recorte de las salidas transitorias ante la pandemia.
Hoy, un grupo de detenidos en la Unidad N°10 de Melchor Romero salieron de sus celdas y tomaron los techos del penal. Tenían banderas, las agitaban. “Huelga de hambre”, decían las consignas. Algunos llevaban barbijos, otros no. Varios de ellos tomaban sus celulares, clandestinos o registrados tras el beneficio otorgado por el Tribunal de Casación bonaerense de permitir teléfonos a presos para comunicarse por WhatsApp con sus familias, filmaban videos y los enviaban.
La Unidad N°10, que aloja a 150 detenidos, una de tres en la zona de Melchor Romero junto a la N°34 para detenidos con diagnósticos psiquiátricos y la alcaldía número 3 donde están detenidos los 8 rugbiers acusados de matar a golpes a Fernando Báez Sosa, tiene la particularidad de estar ocupada por detenidos que están al final de sus condenas. “Hay unión porque sabemos que los juzgados están haciendo las cosas mal. Hay una banda de pibes que están pasados de su beneficio y no los largan. Llega esa enfermedad y nos mata. Acá no te dan una Buscapina en Sanidad, imaginate si nos van a tratar con esa enfermedad”, asegura un detenido en un video que ilustra esta nota.

El contagio de Julián Arakaki, el preso de Florencio Varela condenado a prisión perpetua por matar a su hija hoy internado en el Hospital Interzonal Perón de Avellaneda, encendió las alarmas entre detenidos y penitenciarios, con el Servicio Penitenciario Bonaerense sobrepoblado en su sistema con más de 45 mil detenidos. El virus cambió la dinámica tradicional de las cárceles. Las visitas, por ejemplo, fueron eliminadas por decisión de los detenidos y de las autoridades.
«Acá es así. Tenemos cortadas las visitas. Es cierto. Yo estoy en una celda con otro compañero. Nuestro sistema de prisión es estricto. Salimos al patio y nada más. No tenemos contacto con nadie. Los penitenciarios nos miran de lejos y con barbijo cuando estamos afuera. Es difícil que entre el virus acá porque estamos todo el día encerrados, es un penal de máxima seguridad. Pero cuando vos pedís que te llevan al médico porque te duele algo no te dan ni bola, es la verdad. Te dan ibuprofeno y a tu celda, chau. Encima te revisan de lejos. Está todo bien, pero lo que dicen no es del todo cierto. Si llega a entrar el virus acá nos morimos todos, corta.”, le contó un preso a Infobae alojado en la Unidad N°30 de General Alvear, que evito dar su nombre.
En Melchor Romero, los detenidos reclaman también insumos y cuidados médicos: el SPB inició desinfecciones en el penal con la pandemia a pesar de que no hay ningún caso confirmado. Por otra parte, el SPB sostiene que los detenidos de la Unidad N°10 reclaman precisamente lo que piden en sus videos: excarcelaciones, luego de las 400 concedidas a detenidos en grupos de riesgo por un tribunal provincial.
Las salidas transitorias fueron suspendidas por orden judicial. Por lo pronto, hay canales de diálogo abiertos entre detenidos y autoridades. Mientras tanto, la protesta continúa. “Mirá ahí, vienen con la escopeta, porque la lapicera no la agarran ni en pedo”, dice un detenido en otro video que se viralizó por WhatsApp.
Por otra parte, el primero de tres penitenciarios infectados fue dado de alta tras nueve días de internación. Trabajaba como guardia en el muro de la Unidad N°21 de Campana. Se encontraba internado desde el sábado 11 de abril en la clínica Delta de esa ciudad tras haberse infectado por el virus. El guardia, de 46 años, se recuperó favorablemente y luego que le realizaran dos test que dieron negativos, le dieron el alta médico.
